Our Story: Deep Roots and Big Dreams

Our historic home, built in the 1890s and in our family for six generations, became ours in 2020 when we moved back to Beaumont, Texas. Nestled on part of the original Walker Farm in Rosedale, we knew we wanted to restore the land to its agricultural roots—and build a farm that reflected our shared passion: flowers.

We chose the name Caralavi by blending our names—Carol, Allen, and our daughter Avie—a name that perfectly captures the heart of this family venture. We set out on this journey during the height of the pandemic, when hiring help was nearly impossible. Armed with determination, basic tools, and a whole lot of research, we renovated our historic farmhouse ourselves. Even our then-three-year-old daughter pitched in, sharing her opinions on paint colors, and helping to care for seedlings and our four-legged friends along the way.

A Love of Gardening, Generations in the Making

Gardening has always been a lifelong passion for both of us. But when we found each other, our love for plants—and for nurturing the earth—blossomed into something even bigger. After marrying, we transformed our first suburban yard into a vibrant, sustainable landscape filled with native plants, butterflies, and birds.

So when we bought our three-acre farm in Southeast Texas, it felt like a whole new world. We couldn’t wait to get our hands in the dirt again—removing invasive species, rebuilding habitats, and creating wildscapes that would welcome wildlife back to the land.

How Flower Farming Found Us

We never set out to become flower farmers—flower farming found us. As we shared our garden journey on social media, people began reaching out: “Can we buy your flowers?” they asked. “Do you do arrangements for events?” Having worked on events in the past, we thought, why not give it a try?

We're so glad we said yes. The response has been beyond anything we imagined, and this little idea has blossomed into something truly special—a gift that keeps on growing. We’ve followed the quiet signs along the way, and it’s as if nature is cheering us on. Rare migratory birds, butterflies, foxes—even coyotes—are returning to this once-overlooked land. Each new visitor feels like a gentle nudge to keep going.

Looking Ahead

Though we’ve only officially been flower farming for less than a year, we have a long list of hopes and dreams. Our farm is entirely organic, and we’re committed to a sustainable lifestyle—composting, reusing resources, and reducing plastic wherever possible.

We're even building fencing for our raised beds using invasive bamboo planted here generations ago—turning what once was a nuisance into something useful and beautiful. And we’re just getting started.

We hope to one day open Caralavi Farm for workshops and events, sharing what we’ve learned with others who want to create wildlife-friendly gardens of their own. We believe in improving our local ecosystem one flowerbed at a time, and we hope our story inspires others to do the same.

We’re so grateful for the journey—and for every bloom, bird, and butterfly that’s joined us along the way.

We are so thankful your path crossed with ours and we hope you'll follow along as we work, grow and learn on this journey to rebuild a working farm, all while doing what we can to live a sustainable, fulfilling life, learning what it means to flourish in mind, body and spirit on this ancestral land. We're just getting started and can't wait to share it all with you!

With Gratitude,

Carol, Allen, and Avie
